Aloha Paul,

Great write up. I'm always so excited to get on the water and start trolling that I dont have the patients or the necissary talent to catch bait. I'm confident that once I learn the skills and acquire the patience for catching live bait my hook up ratio will improve substantially.

As always thanks for sharing

Got a cool rig that seems to be working well. I just need to carve out some time to take pictures and post. Any free time is currently spent fishing so I need to make myself spend some time doing some maintenance, cleaning and forum catch up.

Aloha Paul,

Nice catch and as always really enjoyed the video. I also have the Uniden Marine VHF radios but they have been less than desirable for me as far as performance. I have three of them and all of them have difficulty charging if you don't manipulate them just right in the charges. One of many problems that I have experienced with these dang radios.

On another note flying over to the Big Island on Friday to do some tournament fishing so I will touch base and hopefully catch up with you.

Aloha Paul,

I hope to see you soon. Even if we don't catch guaranteed good time. However I would love the opportunity to try some of your famous Ono Fish Tacos.

Quick update

I did not land any fish with my revised rig but I did get several big time hook ups. One hook up was in front of Mala Harbor here on Maui. Talk about the Hawaiian Sleigh Ride this monster fish pulled me approximately 3/4 of the way to the Island of Lanai about 45 minutes. I pulled my rudder up because I almost hulied and forced my rod to face the front and the ride was on:) Unfortunately whatever it was eventually broke my 100# braided line which was connected to a 200# three and half foot long SS braided leader.

Boy Howdy I sure love this sport even when you miss em!

Aloha Paul and Fellow Kayak Anglers,

I have used Paul and Reggie rig and it has worked well for me. I have also modified it by adding another hook with a zip tie which turns the trailer hook into a triple hook. It worked fine but it seemed to keep the hook further away from the body of the fish.

I plan on going out over this 3 day weekend so I have altered my rigs again so that the trailer hook is actually two double hooks back to back with a small zip tie. It seems to attatch to body of the fish better and keeps the exposed hooks much closer to the body of the bait fish that I'm trolling with.

Recently I caught about a 7' shark which i released but it has proven to me that my rods, reels and rigs are strong enough to help me catch some of the bigger game.

Hopefully I can post some pictures after the weekend of some fish and my revised version of my rigs.

Take care and good luck fishing to all

Aloha c2y,

I have not been kayak fishing as long as you. I wish I would of discovered how much fun kayak fishing was 10 years ago:) I started getting serious around April of 2009 but since then I have been obsessed with the sport of kayak fishing.

Paul has become a good friend to me and has helped me in many ways to enhance my kayak fishing skills. I reeealy enjoy this site and look forward to reading some of the future c2y articles:)

I'm a proud Grandpa of a future kayak fishing boy that is 19 months old. His mommy (My Daughter)is having her baby shower this morning at our house because she is due this month on the 30th of April. She is expecting a baby boy so now I will have two future kayak fishing buddy's. I'm hoping my wife will suggest that I go fishing. Hopefully I will be posting some fish pics later this weekend.

I started getting some global attention after I was featured on the December 2009 cover of the state wide publication Hawaii Fishing News.

I had never been to kayak fishing sites and forums but eventually started visiting them and joining the sites. Started introducing myself and making friends. Jon shields was one of them. Jon recently self published a book called Kayak Fishing and also decided to do an article about me on the KFM site.

Kayak fishing has become an ultimate sport for me. I really enjoy meeting fellow kayak fishing anglers and sharing all of the experiences and knowledge with one another. For this reason I'm a huge fan of YakHawaii and Paul. Thanks for sharing Paul and for your continued efforts to promote this awesome sport in the most positive fashion.

Sincerely

I live on Maui but I must say that when I visited the Plenty Pupule Kona store I was really impressed with their store and the kind service. Well stocked and nice people.

Look forward to seeing the results of the contest.

Wow thank you Paul for adding the article about me from KFM to your site. I have really learned a lot about kayak fishing from you and this site.

I encourage others to purchase Reggies videos and the recent book by Jon Shields called Kayak Fishing located on the KFM site. Thanks to you this site provides links to both Reggie and Jon's experiences and knowledge regarding kayak fishing. They are both good avenues to enhance and improve your kayak fishing abilities.

Aloha Paul,

Nice video on the Ono and congratulations!

It appears that you have recently gone from spinning reels to conventional type reels. Do you or Reggie have a favorite rod and reel combination?

Thanks again for sharing. You make all kayak fisherman wiser and poud:)

I think the reason that Paul uses the pink nail polish on the weight is because he is a cross dresser and this is simply left over from his wardrobe but he does this as practice for future engagements:)

Just kidding Paul but that is actually a good question and I was wondering that same thing. I used red because that was the only color my daughter had lying around.

I have modified Paul and Reggies rig design a bit and headed out right know to see how it works. If it works like I hope I will take pictures and show you all the alteration that i tried.

Wish me luck and everyone keep your lines tight.
