About Me (Kayak Fishing)
I've been kayak fishing since 2006. Never fished before that! So everything I've learned and experienced has been shared to me by some of the best kayak anglers of Hawai. Learning is never ending and safety are the key factors to being a decent kayak fisherman. In addition, luck helps a lot too!

Never tried the outfitter. It seems that the Oasis has more space for a tandem team. Just check out the weight capacity it can hold and compare them to each other to see which one meets your requirement.

Once I get everything worked out for which it seems, I will show everything on whay and how it was done. Right now, I only have a limited time to enjoy the fishing and editing the videos as a tandem team. So hold on and they will get done. Thanks for asking. And the stabilizers are Spring Creek Stabilizers that cost in the $300 range. I have taken them to a more dimensional level with rod mounting that might be the first for them using small parts tubing.

Hey nice to hear from you Hilodiver. I look at my kayak in the garage and I know it will be real soon that I'll be on it. You must be busy up mauka and with the family. Been following your posts on the Internet and getting some great info from you. It's been over a year since we fished together and if you are ever going to fish on a Wednesday ot Thursday in the Hilo area, let me know. See you out there Rob!

It all depends on where you are fishing. Fresh dead bait and artrificial lures works from my experience, never caught an opelu before... but an experience angler with contacts/experienced koa grounds give a great advantage on when the bite is on... beats paddling/pedaling and trolling for hours. Wish I had those friends.

I totally agree with Brian... especially on the east side of the big island. scarry with those swells sometimes compared to west coast fishing. Confidence builds with a fishing partner. All it takes is five minutes for the weather to change on you from decent to bad. Once you feel comfortable with your laucnch and fishing site, it can be done by solo. Look us up when you get out here!

Nice work. Now the pieces of the puzzle will all come together. Fish is in the near future.

The fish will tell you (break/hookup)on the strength of your setup. I agree with DS as it will be a good place to start. Most fish will be between 15 pounds and 40. It's all about the ride anyway!

Don't know much about it as I use a 343c from Humminbird. Only had to send it in once for repair and it works great with 4 years on it. I do use a separate GPS unit. They did not have combos 4 years ago. Let us know on what you get and write a review about it. Thanks!

YakHawaii replied to the topic Re: Bottom Fishing Rig? in the forums.
Same here on the opelu DS... have not hooked up any. I have used a bottom fishing rig that I have adapted from the "Fishing Hawaii" series written by Jim Rizzutto. Gppd books to have as they share most of the secrets that most don't want to share with you. I have volumes 1 & 2.

Very nice job there! It's incredible to hear the penetration of the SS into the skull of the pelagic. You'll know when it happens and I hope it happens soon. The kage is going to give you leverage for easy fish management. Tight Lines!

YakHawaii Still waiting to get over this dreadful flu. Looking to launch next week for sure in February. Hope to write about something as I have avoided anything to do with kayak fishing for January 2011.
